- Transportation Paramaribo - Commewijne v.v. by bus/car and boat
Tour description
The Commewijne district is one of the oldest plantation areas in Suriname. On this boat trip you will visit the Commewijne district, known for its many historical plantations.
We depart in the morning from Leonsberg, where we cross over to New Amsterdam by traditional boat. Here you will find the historic open-air museum Fort Nieuw-Amsterdam. You will get a tour of the complex, and we then sail on to the former plantation Rust & Werk. The highlight of this boat tour is the beautifully restored plantation Frederiksdorp. On this former coffee plantation, you will get a guided tour, giving you an impression of how life and the plantation must have looked like in colonial times. On the way back, you will stop at the Johan-Margaretha plantation. Currently, various crops are grown on this plantation by farmers, including cassava, bananas / bacoven and peppers.
At the end of the afternoon we sail back to Leonsberg, where you might be surprised by a visit from the dolphins on the way!
