2-day tour
Day 1 Paramaribo - Nickerie
Around 07.30 AM you will depart from Paramaribo to the town of Nieuw-Nickerie, in the North-West of Suriname. The distance Paramaribo-Nickerie is about 240 km, but on the way you will visit some historical places in the districts of Saramacca and Coronie. Around 2:30 PM you will arrive at the Akira Overwater Resort where you will have a late lunch.
We make a short stop in the town of Groningen. At the end of 1845 the first Dutch farmers from the Province of Groningen settled in this town. In 1945 a monument was unveiled in Groningen to commemorate the presence of the "Boeroes" in Groningen. After Groningen we make a stop at Coppenamepunt, a fishing village, where we get to know the daily way of life of the inhabitants.
After Saramacca, we pass Coronie, a district known for coconuts and parwa honey. Once we arrive in Nickerie, we board the boat to Bigi Pan, where you will stay 1 night at the Akira Overwater Resort. After dinner, we will take a night cruise.
Day 2 Nickerie - Paramaribo
After spending the night, on day 2 after breakfast, you will leave the Bigi Pan nature reserve. We sail back to Nickerie for a city tour, visiting the market and the Zeedijk. After lunch we depart for Paramaribo, visiting the town of Wageningen en route. In Wageningen, the Machinale Landbouw Foundation (S.M.L) was established to process rice. In 2005, operations ceased, leaving the dryer and husking plant in disrepair. In 2018, S.M.L. was restarted and work resumed. Of particular note is the statue of slave Alida, one breast of which was cut off by her "mistress." It is told of this slave that her mistress thought her husband looked at the slave's breasts too much and she cut one off and served it to him. In the late afternoon we arrived in Paramaribo with an experience richer.

Day 2 Akira Overwater Resort Bigi Pan
The morning starts with a cup of coffee or tea on your balcony. After breakfast, you will board the boat, and we will sail northwest to the mouth of Ramdinkreek to explore the Bigipan wetland. Along the coastal plain there are black and white mangrove species. The lodge Akira is named after the white mangrove. These mangrove forests not only provide a nursery for many fish and bird species, but also ensure that there is no land loss. The guide will tell you in detail about these mangrove forests and their function. And if you are lucky, you will encounter heron species. After the instructive cruise, we return to the lodge to enjoy a delicious lunch. After lunch, you can kayak, canoe, fish, swim or just relax. Afterwards, we get ready for a 2e cruise to the other side of the pan, the North-East direction, where there is predominantly black mangrove. In this area, there are many swamp areas that have been given special names by fishermen, such as Jumby hole and Dok Island. During this cruise you will encounter the diving birds as well as other bird species. A magical event, where the thousands of birds color the sky.
